KW Chin Community Organization strongly condemns the coup d'etat staged by the military regime known as "Tatmadaw" in Myanmar on the early morning of February 01, 2021. This coup d'etat is totally unacceptable and the military assault on human rights and fundamental freedoms for the people of Union of Burma.
The actions of military generals by seizing power on the basis of verbal accusation that fraudulent votes in November 2020 election without evidence clearly shows the military regime intention to put the country back under dictatorship. The irresponsible coup staged by the regime while millions can barely feed themselves during this pandemic not only worsened life in pandemic struggle but further deteriorates the fragile democratic and human rights gains initiated during the past 10 years under democratic transitional government from direct military rule.
KW Chin Community urges the government of Canada and international community to stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar to fight against military coup in Myanmar. We also urge the military authorities to refrain from using force against civilian protesters and release all political detainees. Immediately allow union parliament to convene which was due to open on first week of February this year.
We call on the United Nations Organization and International Community to immediately intervene as the military released more than twenty thousands dangerous prisoners on February 12, 2021 who are now at large in several cities to loot, arson and put poison on foods and drinks. Many culprits were caught red-handed by civilians while attempting to do the order given to them by the military to burn buildings and put poison inside drinking water bottles.
KW Chin Community stand firmly in support with everyone who are now conducting civil disobedience movement in Myanmar and peaceful protesters in the street nationwide to fight against military coup and restore democratic rule in Myanmar.
